|Let us help make your event special!
Four friends who've played together since 1982 - Allegra is in great demand, giving about 100 performances a year with a flair that appeals to the sophisticated listener and a warmth and friendliness that draws even the most inexperienced ear.
Founding members Diane Valentine and Laurie Syer (violins), Theresa Plotnick (viola) and Dorothy Bishop (cello) have played together in concert hall, church, penthouse, and tent, on paddlewheeler and mountain top (sometimes via helicopter!) We've played for heads of state, and we've played for friends. We've helped celebrate the openings of Calgary's major new venues, and the family events of our long-term clients.
|Which event are you planning?
Weddings and wedding receptions - we can play from the time your guests start to arrive, through cocktails and dinner, right through the last dance. We also play for anniversaries.
Corporate functions - we can play for your staff party, customer appreciation night, retirement roast, office opening, building dedication, or the announcement of your new business venture.
Are you planning a fundraiser? Let us play for your brunch or offer our services in your silent auction.
Some of our clients have become like family - we've been invited to play for baby showers, birthdays, bar mitzvahs, graduations, holiday celebrations, and family reunions.
"Today, just because it's St. Patrick's Day, I can write about anything I like. So I'm going to write about Allegra. I like Allegra . . . a fine foursome of female fiddlers . . . does an excellent job of the [Pachelbel] Canon."
--Patrick Tivy, Calgary Herald
"One of the busiest chamber ensembles in Calgary . . . To date, Allegra's performances in local restaurants have been the only places where one enjoys Mozart and Schubert in a civilized manner over coffee and cakes."
--Erik Dawson, Calgary Herald
"As you may have noted, our entire table at dinner was most impressed with both the quality of your playing and the appropriateness of your repertoire."
--Dennis Anderson, Alberta Minister of Culture
"In an otherwise hectic Stampede week, you provided a relaxing background for a very elegant luncheon."
--A. McManus (sponsor liason, Olympic Winter Games Organizing Committee)
"Calgary's celebrated string quartet . . . a delightful CD"
--Ken McGoogan, Calgary Herald
"a flawless classical set . . . left the audience breathless and clamoring for more . . . deep, dark Ceylon Tango . . . rousing Hungarian Czardas . . . maybe [Allegra] has a few lessons to teach musicians who feel they are playing at their audience rather than to it . . . I think I even heard singing from the balcony . . ."
